Questions people ask

Where does the candidate half go?

To Democratic nominees in the closest House, Senate and governor races, picked from our Candidates to Watch list using the nonpartisan race ratings. Every transfer is listed on this page with the date, the amount and the campaign's receipt.

Can I give to one candidate directly?

Yes. Every candidate page has a "Give directly" button that opens that campaign's own official donation page. Those gifts go 100% to the campaign, and we never see or handle them.

What does the other half pay for?

The newsroom's research tools, the word-for-word quote check, cutting and captioning the clips on Channel GOP, and the servers. No paywall, no pop-ups, no selling your name.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

No. Political gifts are not tax-deductible.

Who can give?

U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, from their own money. Federal law does not allow foreign nationals to give to U.S. campaigns.
