The rules

Standards & corrections

What every story has to pass before it runs.

  1. Every fact has a source

Each factual sentence carries a numbered citation to a page the reporter actually read: news reports, congressional records, court filings, budget office numbers, official statements. Sources are listed at the bottom of every story.

  2. Every quote is checked word for word

After a story is written, our system fetches every cited page again, independently, and searches it for each direct quote. If a quote is not found exactly, it is removed or paraphrased. If the sources cannot be loaded to check, the story does not run.

  3. Allegations stay allegations

Unless a court, a conviction or the person themselves says so, accusations are written as accusations. No name-calling and no all-caps headlines.

  4. Opinion is labeled

We are a Democratic outlet. Analysis pieces are marked "Analysis" and are written as argument built on the sourced facts.

  5. AI, disclosed

Stories are researched and written by AI agents under these rules, and the quote check is automatic. Photos are freely licensed (mostly official public-domain portraits) and credited. Clips come from public footage with the source named.

  6. Corrections

Spot an error? Tell us. We fix it, and note the correction at the top of the story.
