Nixon says Meta pulled her Latino outreach page mid-rally; it was restored hours later
Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon says Instagram suspended her Latino outreach page during a get-out-the-vote rally, a week before Election Day. It follows Meta's October 17 suspension of the No Kings account, which Meta has called an error.

Angie Nixon, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Florida, says Meta suspended an Instagram page her campaign built to reach Latino voters while she was holding a rally on Tuesday night. The page was back online by early Wednesday, Newsweek reported. 1
Nixon, a Florida state representative, said the #LatinosConAngie page was suddenly taken down while the campaign was actively posting content from the event. The rally was in Osceola County, which she described as home to a large Puerto Rican community. 1
She called on Meta to "immediately restore the page and provide an explanation for its removal." Nixon is running against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, who was appointed to fill Marco Rubio's seat after he became secretary of state. Nixon trails Moody by a few percentage points in polls released this month, Newsweek reported. 1
What Instagram told the campaign
Nixon shared a screenshot of an Instagram message saying the page was suspended because "your account, or activity on it, doesn’t follow our Community Standards on account integrity." The notice gave her until April 25, 2027, to appeal before the account would be disabled. 1

The progressive group 50501 Movement said the page was "shut down for well over an hour." Newsweek said it had asked Nixon's campaign and Meta for comment and had not yet received replies. Meta's reason for this suspension is not yet known. 1
The second incident this month
On October 17, Meta took down the Instagram account of the No Kings protest movement during nationwide rallies. The account was offline for more than an hour, and organizers said it took longer to restore their access. 2
Meta spokesman Andy Stone apologized on X. He said a surge of activity "resembled automated bot traffic rather than an ordinary human browsing our systems," and that this caused Meta's automated protections to "incorrectly take the No Kings Instagram account offline." 12
The No Kings Coalition was not satisfied. It said Meta's explanation "still doesn't add up" and reported that No Kings and early-voting content seemed "inaccessible, restricted, or seemed suppressed across Meta platforms." 2
The Oversight Board, an independent body that reviews the company's moderation decisions, raised concerns earlier this month about "recurring enforcement failures in Meta’s election integrity efforts." It said the No Kings suspension "should have been caught by Meta’s mistake-prevention systems." 1
Why it matters
Nothing in the reporting shows that either suspension was deliberate. Meta has called the No Kings takedown a mistake, and it has not yet explained the Nixon page. 12
Even so, the timing matters. Both accounts went dark during live political events, in the last weeks before Election Day on November 3. That is when campaigns lean hardest on social media to turn out voters. 1
Social media's reach is wide. Pew Research found 58 percent of Americans now consider it a key way to get news, up from 43 percent in 2022. Among adults 65 and older the share is 41 percent. 1
What happens next depends on Meta. Nixon wants an explanation, and the No Kings Coalition has said it wants answers and safeguards. Newsweek said it was awaiting comment from the campaign, Meta, the coalition and the Oversight Board. 12
