On Late Night, Seth Meyers takes a closer look at Vance blaming the war with Iran for Republicans' midterm losses after months of defending it. Meyers plays a clip of Vance telling a reporter at a White House briefing "I wouldn't call it a war," then riffs on it with an over-the-top impression. The impression is comedy; the clip of Vance is real.

Now, Vance didn't just spend months enthusiastically defending the war. He specifically went out of his way to say that Trump was uniquely qualified to execute the war and that all the goals had been achieved. In fact, the guy who is now blaming the war is the same guy who said just two months ago, it wasn't even a war. Will this war be over by the time of the midterm elections? Well, Caitlyn, again, I don't... I wouldn't call it a war. Caitlyn, I wouldn't call it a war, but that's because I'm lying to you. And look, what I'd say to you is I'm a liar. Lying is my only skill, and I'm not even good at it. You know, I'm lying. I know I'm lying. Everyone knows I'm lying. You see, it's the smirk. Dead giveaway in two months from now, when we get our asses kicked in the midterms, I'm gonna admit I was lying, but I'm also gonna lie while admitting I'm lying, because my whole thing is lying, even when you stare directly into my eyes. Which, to be clear, do not have eyeliner on them, which is a lie, because, again, I'm a liar. In fact, I'm wearing a shade of eyeliner for liars called Liar Liner.
