Governor — Kansas · First run

Cindy Holscher

Cindy Holscher is a Democratic state senator from Overland Park who won the August primary with 48% of the vote. Republican Ty Masterson, the Kansas Senate president, leads in most public polls, including a New York Times/Siena poll showing him ahead by more than the margin of error, though Holscher says the race is "neck and neck."

On the ballot against Ty Masterson (R)

Why it matters: Kansas has a Democratic governor, Laura Kelly, who is leaving office, and Cook rates the open seat Lean Republican, with property taxes and school funding the central issues.

The file on Ty Masterson

  • Masterson proposes a constitutional amendment, which he calls a 'homeowners bill of rights,' capping annual growth in taxable assessed property value at 3% or less.
