Governor of New Jersey (in office)

Mikie Sherrill

A former Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor, Sherrill beat Jack Ciattarelli by about 14 points in 2025 and was sworn in as New Jersey's 57th governor in January 2026, signing a utility-rate freeze order on day one. She is not on the 2026 ballot.

Why it matters: Since taking office in January 2026, Gov. Sherrill signed executive orders on her first day to hold down electric rates and expand energy supply, and on June 30 signed a $60.7 billion budget with record property tax relief, a full pension payment and a larger child tax credit, without raising taxes on individual residents.

In Mikie's own words

We see a president illegally usurping power, unconstitutionally enacting a tariff regime to make billions for himself and his family while everyone else sees their costs go higher,
Mikie Sherrill, Inaugural address at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, Jan 20 source
When I took office, I promised New Jersey families that affordability would be the north star of every decision we made. With the passage of our first budget, we are delivering on that promise,
