In an interview with Univision Houston, James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, calls for suspending the federal gas and diesel taxes. He says that would cut gas by 18 cents a gallon and save diesel users about $200 a year. He also blames the war in Iran for fuel prices and tariffs for food prices, and calls for repealing the "big ugly bill" cuts he says are driving up premiums.

Well, on gas prices we should immediately suspend the federal gas tax and the federal diesel tax. That would drop the price of gas by 18 cents a gallon tomorrow if we did that. And if we suspended the federal diesel tax, it would save those who use diesel about $200 a year. Now that's a short -term measure. The only long -term solution is to end this disastrous war in Iran that is driving up these gas and diesel prices. When it comes to grocery prices, we have to repeal these crazy tariffs that are driving up food prices across our state. And when it comes to health care, we have to repeal the cuts made in the big ugly bill that are driving up premiums for people across this state.
