Roy Cooper, campaigning for Senate in North Carolina one week out from Election Day, says the swamp runs "through Congress, all the way up to the President" and calls for passing anti-corruption laws. He says he sold his individual stocks when he ran for governor and will do the same in the Senate "regardless of what the law is." He also says his opponent, asked why he is running, answered that the president asked him to.

They said that we're going to drain the swamp. Folks, it is deeper than ever. Through Congress, all the way up to the President of the United States, we have to pass these laws. Now what I did when I ran for governor, I sold all of my individual stocks about widely held index mutual funds. I'm doing that now. I will do that in the Senate regardless of what the law is. Because we need people to step up and vote for these laws, but we need people who know right from wrong to start with. The second thing I want to say about my opponent is that when he was asked why he's running for the Senate, he said because the president asked me to. And let me, you can take this to the bank. He's going to do and say whatever this president tells him to do and say, regardless of whether it's good for the people in North Carolina. I on the other hand will be a strong independent senator for our state.
