Hakeem Jeffries, at a press conference on ICE with Rep. Sylvia Garcia, accuses the Trump administration of lying to the American people about who immigration enforcement would target. He says Donald Trump's "violent mass deportation machine" has "targeted, brutalized, and in some cases killed American citizens and law abiding immigrant communities," and that people are fearful of coming to work.

People are fearful of coming to work and people are understandably dismayed, outraged, and of course concerned about the fact that the Trump administration lied to the American people. Trump administration promised that immigration enforcement was going to target violent felons. That's not what has happened. Donald Trump's violent mass deportation machine has in fact targeted, brutalized, and in some cases killed American citizens and law abiding immigrant communities. That's unacceptable. It needs to be turned around and that message was reinforced here today.
