Pete Buttigieg spoke at the Michigan Democrats' election night watch party in Detroit. He said the night showed broad support for health care as a right, billionaires paying at least what teachers and nurses pay in taxes, and getting money and partisan gerrymandering out of politics. He said results were still coming in, "but to put it very, very mildly, I'd rather be us right now."

We showed that this is not a 50 -50 country when it comes to the idea that health care ought to be a right for every single American, not a privilege for a few. We showed that America and Michigan are not closely divided when it comes to the idea that billionaires and trillionaires ought to pay at least as high a tax level as school teachers and nurses and firefighters in this country. We reminded everybody that But there is a super majority of Americans in Michiganders who believe that the wealthiest economy in the world ought to have the best public schools in the world. And that money has no place in our politics and partisan gerrymandering has no place in our electoral system. Folks, the results are still coming in, but to put it very, very mildly, I'd rather be us right now.
