Nevada votes again on abortion rights amendment as a late poll shows support slipping to 57%

Nevada voters are taking their second and final vote today on Question 6, which would put a right to abortion in the state constitution. A poll released Friday found less support than in September, with younger voters strongly in favor and older voters more divided.

Nevada voters are deciding today, Nov. 3, whether to put a right to abortion in the state constitution. Under state rules, a citizen amendment has to pass in two elections in a row. Voters approved this one, Question 6, in 2024, so today's vote is the second and final one 3. Two years ago it passed with slightly more than 64% of the vote 3.

A poll released Friday suggests the margin could be smaller this time. Noble Predictive Insights surveyed 487 likely voters Oct. 26–28. It found 57% supporting the measure, 34% opposed and 6% unsure, with a margin of error of 4.44 points 2. In a September poll by the same firm, 69% of likely voters supported it and 22% were opposed 9.

Older voters were more divided than younger ones. Among voters 45 and older, 48% supported Question 6 and 40% opposed it. Among voters 18 to 44, the split was 72% to 23% 2.

What a yes vote would do

The amendment would guarantee a right to abortion performed by a qualified health care practitioner until fetal viability, and after that point when needed to protect the patient's life or health 6. Viability is often reached between 24 and 26 weeks, according to Ms. magazine 7.

State law already allows abortion through 24 weeks 6. A no vote would leave the constitution as it is. The right would stay in ordinary state law, which the Legislature could change later 3. A constitutional right is harder to undo 3.

That matters because a single election can change who writes the laws. KFF, the nonpartisan health research group, reported in September that if the amendment passes, advocates will likely challenge Nevada's parental-notification law for minors. KFF said the Nevada Supreme Court has temporarily blocked that law 6.

A tied governor's race on the same ballot

Voters are also choosing a governor. The same Noble poll had Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo and Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford tied at 47% each 2. Ford has said he would protect abortion access and IVF (in vitro fertilization, a fertility treatment) and keep politicians out of private medical decisions 4.

Lombardo's record on abortion has changed over time. In an October 2022 debate he called his "personal belief" "pro-life" and said abortion protections were already in state law, saying it was codified in law 5. That May, he had backed a referendum on a 13-week abortion ban, a position he later dropped 5.

Lombardo has also said he would personally support a 15-week cutoff, while arguing that abortion rights are written into state law and should be left to voters 4. His campaign spokeswoman, Halee Dobbins, said Democrats want to "relitigate an issue Nevadans settled long ago" 4.

In 2023, Lombardo signed a measure protecting people who come to Nevada from other states for abortions. In 2025, he vetoed an IVF bill and cited cost concerns in his veto message 4. In September, the Question 6 campaign, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, launched a $1 million digital ad campaign. Its first ad says Lombardo vetoed a bipartisan bill protecting access to birth control 8.

Money, and why other states are watching

The yes side has raised far more money. Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom has raised nearly $1.6 million, and the opposing campaign, Protect our Girls, about $77,000. Those figures come from Ballotpedia and were cited by Focus on the Family's Daily Citizen, which opposes the measure 9. Melissa Clement, president of Nevada Right to Life, told the Nevada Independent, "We will definitely be spending more" 4.

People from nearby states also travel to Nevada for abortion care. According to Guttmacher Institute figures reported by Ms. magazine, 16,190 abortions were provided in Nevada in 2025. That year, 890 people came from other states for care, including 320 from Texas, 220 from Arizona and 140 from Utah 7.

Nevada is one of four states with abortion on the ballot today. Missouri is voting on whether to repeal the abortion-rights amendment voters passed in 2024. Idaho's measure would block bans on abortion before fetal viability, and Virginia's would ensure abortion is allowed for the first two trimesters 1. Nevadans are also taking a second vote on a voter ID amendment that passed in 2024 1.

Governor Joe Lombardo has repeatedly used his office to undermine reproductive freedom, violating the will of voters.

The pattern is clear from the poll. Question 6 has strong support among younger voters and Democrats, with 91% of Democrats and 67% of independents in favor 2. The outcome may come down to older voters, who were more divided than younger voters in the final poll 2.
