Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan U.S. Senate candidate, spoke at a Detroit Economic Club candidate forum. He said $12 trillion in debt was accrued under the other side, which he says cuts taxes for the richest and goes to wars "we don't need to fight." He called Trump's "one big ugly bill" a tax cut for the richest and said a war is driving up gas and grocery prices.

I just want to be clear under the other guy who's gonna preach to you, I'm sure he's already preached to you, fiscal responsibility. $12 trillion in debt we accrued. Why? Because every time his party takes power they do two things. They cut a bunch of taxes for the richest people in the economy telling us it's gonna trickle down someday. And then they go to wars we don't need to fight. Guess what just happened under Donald Trump? You get the one big ugly bill where you cut taxes for the richest people and guess what? But we're stuck in a war that's increasing our gas prices. That's increases in the price at the grocery store. It's all the same. They do the same thing. And anytime somebody like me steps up and says, I actually think we could have health care in good schools, they're like, that seems profligate. What are we going to do about the national debt? I don't know. Maybe stop fighting stupid wars. We shouldn't be fighting. And maybe we should tax the richest people. And here's what I mean by that. In this economy, it is easier for a billionaire to make a second billion. I would rather, and I think all of you would rather live in an economy where it's easier for the average person to make a million than it is for a billionaire to make a second billion? That's just efficiency.
