Senator Chris Murphy, at a Middle East Institute event debriefing his recent Gulf trip, says Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, not Rubio, are the primary US communicators to partners in the region. His claim: the number one priority is to leverage foreign policy to make Donald Trump, Witkoff and Kushner rich, which is why the Secretary of State doesn't own the portfolio.

And my sense is that, you know, while Rubio goes along with all of it, Marco is probably not going to cut the deal to make Trump rich. That's going to be Jared or Whitcoff, right? So the reason that Kushner and Whitcoff are the primary communicators to our partners in the region is because the number one priority of the United States government is to leverage foreign policy to make Donald Trump, Steve Wittkopf, and Jared Kushner rich. So I just, I don't, the Secretary of State doesn't own the primary ownership of the portfolio because the interest isn't in protecting America's security, the interest is in making Trump rich.
