Katie Miller, wife of new chief of staff, says she skipped voting to protect her address

The conservative podcaster, whose husband Stephen Miller becomes White House chief of staff Monday, said she didn't vote in Virginia because voting would expose her address. She had also blamed non-voting mothers for GOP losses.

Conservative podcaster Katie Miller says she did not vote in this week's midterm elections. She spoke on CBS News' election night coverage on Tuesday, according to Newsweek. 1

Her husband, Stephen Miller, was named White House chief of staff on Friday. He replaces Susie Wiles and starts Monday. 1

I did not vote in Virginia because in Virginia when you vote, you dox your own address, and so I prefer my own safety and security over giving that up

Miller made the remark after Republicans lost both the House and the Senate. Earlier in the same coverage she suggested that mothers were part of the reason. She said they were “too busy raising their children and taking care of them to go to the polls.” 12

What Virginia's rules say

Virginia's Department of Elections makes lists of voters and registered people available for purchase. Candidates, party committees, political action committees and incumbents can buy them for political purposes. Members of the public and nonprofit groups can also buy them, according to Newsweek's summary of the department's rules. 1

The Daily Beast reported that the Millers have lived in secure military housing in Washington since September of last year. It said they had claimed “terrorist threats” at their previous Virginia home. It added that a police report described chalk messages left outside that home as “non-threatening.” 2

The Daily Beast also said it is unclear whether Stephen Miller voted. It said it asked the White House and did not report a reply. Newsweek said it contacted Katie Miller for comment Friday night. 12

Other recent controversies

The day before the election, Katie Miller posted that watching voters head to the polls made her want more kids “to cancel out the votes of the America-hating leftists.” 2

Newsweek also reported that she drew criticism this spring for naming a Democratic National Committee staffer during a social media argument. She called the staffer a “sad, unhappy female liberal” with a “mental health condition.” 1

After Democrats won the majorities, she wrote on X that the administration was “more united than ever before” and “more prepared than ever before.” 1

Trump's view of Stephen Miller

In announcing the change on Truth Social, President Donald Trump called Stephen Miller “one of my most trusted advisors.” Speaking to reporters, Trump said Miller “gets it” and is “a great manager.” 1

Critics online have pointed to the contrast between her comment about mothers who skip the polls and her own choice not to vote, Newsweek reported. 1

That matters because Stephen Miller will now run the White House staff. His household's view of voting and election safety comes as Trump has pushed claims about election integrity. Still, Katie Miller is a private citizen and a commentator, not a government official. Whether she votes is her own decision.

What happens next: Stephen Miller takes over as chief of staff Monday. Nothing in the reports says Katie Miller has changed her position or plans to comment further. 1
