President Donald Trump held a Friday night rally in Florida, four days before the Nov. 3 midterm election. He praised Republican candidates Byron Donalds and Ashley Moody, announced more hurricane money for the state and attacked Democrats, actor Robert De Niro and hecklers in the crowd 1.
Trump said he recently approved an additional $184 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster funding for Florida's Panhandle. He said Donalds and Moody had asked for it 1. The declaration covers 15 northwest Florida counties damaged by Hurricane Isaias. Residents can seek federal help, including temporary housing and home repairs 1.
Insults and interruptions
Trump insulted De Niro, calling him a moron and saying he now finds the actor gross 1. He also insulted Texas state Rep. James Talarico and former Republican David Jolly 1. Newsweek notes that Talarico has denied being a vegan, a claim Republicans keep repeating 1.
Trump again called Michigan Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed a jihadist. He told Jewish and Black voters they were not smart if they backed him 1. El-Sayed answered similar attacks on Oct. 8, saying Trump uses his name and faith as a distraction from rising costs at the pump, at the grocery store and at the doctor's office 1.

Protesters interrupted the speech several times, and Trump stopped to address them. Later he dismissed another demonstrator as a dope 1. He also complained that news outlets play down his crowd sizes 1.
A threat arrest, and a shifting schedule
Hours before the rally, Florida authorities arrested a 21-year-old woman, Allison Albro. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said she posted on Instagram that she would shoot Trump at the rally 1. She is charged with written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device, the sheriff said 1. A charge is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.
The rally followed a confusing week. On Thursday a White House official confirmed the Kansas rally was canceled, and the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced later that evening that the Iowa rally was off; both were replaced with phone events 2. The RNC said Republicans were in a strong position in both states 2. Asked if his health was the reason, Trump said he felt perfect 2.
On Friday the rallies were restored for Sunday. A White House source said the change made room for nearly 20 phone rallies. One Trump adviser said the president wanted in-person events 2. Kansas Republican Sen. Roger Marshall had said the president probably had better places to spend his time 3.
What happens next
Trump is due in Kansas and Iowa on Sunday, with the election Tuesday 2. Newsweek says polls are tight in many states as Democrats try to win control of the Senate and House 1.
That matters because the president is spending his closing days on personal attacks and shifting explanations. El-Sayed made that same point in his reply.
