In an MS NOW interview after election night, Wellman says thousands of his constituents have lost their health care. He describes J-Pan, a 460-resident town in his district, and warns that if someone there gets cancer without coverage, GoFundMe won't raise enough to pay for it. He says, "I have a problem with us deciding that $6 a day of food for kids is less important than a yacht."

We have to repeal these outrageous cuts to our health care. Thousands of my constituents have lost their health care. And I say a lot in my campaign. There's a little town called J -Pan in the far western part of my district. It's spelled Japan. We call it J -Pan because this is Missouri. J -Pan has 460 residents. And I assure you that if somebody gets cancer in J -Pan and doesn't have health care right now, they're not going to have a big enough a circle in there, go fund me to raise enough money to pay for it. People are going to die and I take that very seriously as a soldier and as a leader. And so we need to go there and stop the bleeding, repeal these cuts, get things in place for people to survive right now. 1 .1 million American kids have lost their health. Are there food benefits in the last year? At least. I have a problem with us deciding that $6 a day of food for kids is less important than a yacht.
