Marjorie Taylor Greene calls Tuesday's midterms a referendum on Trump's betrayal
Once one of Trump's staunchest allies in Congress, Greene told CNN that broken promises on war, the Epstein files and prices are on the ballot. It matters because the criticism comes from inside his own movement.

Former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Tuesday's midterm elections are a referendum on President Donald Trump, citing what she described as his betrayal of voters, Newsweek reported. 1 Greene was once one of Trump's biggest supporters in Congress. 1
She made the comments to CNN when asked about the possibility of a Republican loss. 1 She named the Iran war, the cost of living and the Epstein files as her main complaints. 1
I think it's a complete referendum on Donald Trump—his betrayal where he promised no more foreign wars and to bring world peace; not releasing the Epstein files.
Prices, health costs and a ballroom
Greene said Americans are telling Washington they cannot afford the cost of living, health insurance, or high prices for gas and diesel. 1 She said Trump is "constantly bragging about a ballroom and his big donors and having these big fancy dinners." 1
She did not stop with the president. Greene said the vote would also be a referendum on House Speaker Mike Johnson and congressional Republicans "who never, ever stood up to Donald Trump and pushed their own agenda in the House of Representatives and in the Senate." 1

A final-night speech she called the wrong message
Greene also criticized Trump's closing speech on Monday. He spoke in front of the newly completed Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and spent 20 minutes on the landmark and his Washington, D.C., renovations. 1
She said most Americans do not think about the Reflecting Pool daily, and that it was "absolutely the wrong message to send to Americans, asking them to go vote for Republicans tomorrow." 1
A break that has been building
This is not a new split. On Nov. 15, 2025, Trump said he was cutting ties with Greene and would back a challenger against her "if the right person runs." 2 Greene answered on X that Trump had "attacked me and lied about me." 2
On March 4, 2026, she posted that the Iran war could cost Republicans the midterms. She said Trump and his administration had betrayed their campaign promises of no more foreign wars and no more regime change, and pointed to a Texas primary in which Democrats turned out in greater numbers than Republicans. 3
I don't worship or serve Donald Trump.
What happens next
Voters decide Tuesday. All 435 House seats and a third of the Senate are on the ballot. Republicans now control the House, the Senate and the White House.
That matters because the criticism of Trump on war, prices and the Epstein files is no longer coming only from Democrats. Greene is a single voice and a former member of Congress, and her words do not predict the result.
