Two of the country's best-known election forecasters moved Senate races toward Democrats on Friday, four days before the Nov. 3 midterm election 12.

Sabato's Crystal Ball changed Louisiana's Senate race from "safe Republican" to "likely Republican" and Minnesota's from "leans Democratic" to "likely Democratic," The Hill reported 1.

In Louisiana, Trump-endorsed Representative Julia Letlow, a Republican, faces Democrat Jamie Davis. The Hill's forecasting partner, Decision Desk HQ, gives Letlow an 88 percent chance of winning 1.

Crystal Ball analyst Kyle Kondik wrote that Letlow "could be in a tighter-than-expected race," pointing to early voting data from Louisiana pollster John Couvillon showing "excellent Black voter turnout" 1.

In Minnesota, recent polls put Democrat Peggy Flanagan, the lieutenant governor, double digits ahead of Republican Michele Tafoya. Decision Desk HQ gives Flanagan an 85 percent chance of winning 1.

Kondik wrote that Flanagan is underperforming "the margin one might otherwise expect a Democrat to get in a light blue state in a blue wave environment," but added: "But is she really going to actually lose to former sportscaster Michele Tafoya (R)? The chances of that seem smaller than what a Leans Democratic rating conveys" 1.

Crystal Ball's ratings now project the Senate at 49 Democrats, 46 Republicans and 5 toss-ups. The forecaster will release its final forecast Monday 1.

Cook moves 14 races and calls Democrats slight Senate favorites

The Cook Political Report said Friday it had adjusted ratings for 14 House and Senate races and four governors' contests, shifting them away from Republicans, including races in Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Arizona 2.

Cook now forecasts Democrats netting between two and six Senate seats; four are needed for a majority. In the House, Cook projects Democrats flipping 12 to 25 seats, giving them 227 to 240 seats in 2027, and says Democrats are favored outright in the 218 seats needed for control 2.

Cook's Senate and Governors editor, Jessica Taylor, wrote: "But given the dismal national political environment for Republicans—and the fact that Democrats have multiple scenarios to gain the four seats they need to flip the chamber (of the seven seats sitting in Toss Up, six are held by Republicans)—we see Democrats as the slight favorites" 2.

Cook also said a Republican majority remains possible, particularly if polling has underestimated Republican support, and that either party could still win the Senate, with seven contests rated toss-ups and within the margin of error 2.

Responding to the updated rating, Florida State Representative Angie Nixon, the Democratic Senate candidate, said in a statement: "This state and its people are worth fighting for. And even when we were counted out, we've kept up that fight. I'm not done fighting, and I'm glad people are starting to notice that Floridians aren't done fighting either" 2.

Newsweek said it contacted the campaign of Florida Senator Ashley Moody for a response 2.

That matters because the two forecasts describe the same movement in different terms: Crystal Ball still lists five Senate toss-ups, while Cook lists seven and calls Democrats slight favorites. Both leave the Senate within reach of either party four days out 12.
